So I've spent the past two full days salivating over raw talent and creative genious. Semi - Permanent is a celebration of all things design. Graphic Design, Film, Art, Illustration, Web Design, Photography, Visual Effects, Animation, Graffiti, Motion Graphics, Stop Motion; all these things and more. This is the third time I've been and each year it seems to out do itself in organisation and caliber of speakers. Semi-Permanent explores the diverse and exciting design world bringing together exceptionally talented artists and designers to speak at the event. This year featured the very talented, Storm Thorgerson, Jessica Hische, Dick & Otis Frizzell, Adrian Shaughnessy, The Light Surgeons, Pixar, Karen Walker & Mikhail Gherman, Buck, Duncan Speakman, Katrin Sonnleitner, Poke London, Frost* Design.
The highlights for me were Jessica Hische, Duncan Speakman, Dick & Otis Frizzell.

The theme that really emerged through the process of everyones talks was a sense of collaboration and that design today was more about working together across interdiscplinary boundries than being a specialist in a specific area. The traditional lines that separated design, art, photography and film are now being blurred more than ever. This excites me. I've always considered my self a multi disciplinary artist not wanting to give us illustration, film, photography for the sake of design or vice versa. I filled many pages in my notebook with ideas, thoughts, notes and things to research further. Looking at them now (as they were scralled in the darkess of the Aotea centre) I'm hoping I can decipher them.
For anyone who things they would be interested in the conference next year I would urge you to go. I'll talk a little bit specifically about some of things that captivated me later this week.
