Designed by me - The Red Plate

I've been really slack lately at posting about things I'm working or worked on because life has been so crazy but no more. I'm going to try to post weekly untill I least catch up on the things I've made, crafted and designed this year. Here is the first of many to come...

One project I've been involved with at work this year is redesigning our Red Plate. The Red Plate is recognised an achievement and pay respect. It’s a true honour, given at a special meal-time to celebrate an achievement, a new accomplishment, a birthday or to welcome a guest. The plate has been around for a very long time and when we sold out last year the team decided to update the design.
We also decided to produce a melamine version for parents with children under six that want to start the family tradition early.
This was a new challenge for me and I learnt alot in the process. I had to design the packaging as well which presented it's own challenges. The plates were produced in two different factories and the ceramic packing came back with more of a fluro red than deep red. Oh dear! I'm a bit nervous about how the new design will be received by red plate fans. The old design had one big star in the middle and didn't have any lettering around the outside.

Overall though I felt incredibly privileged to be involved in designing something to be used by families around the world. What do you think?

The Red Plate is available exclusively at www.theparentingplace.com. Both ceramic and melamine are $12.90.
